The Luke 8:50 meaning: what Jesus told Jairus
What is the deeper meaning of Luke 8:50? In Luke chapter 8, a father named Jairus receives the news every parent dreads: his twelve-year-old daughter has died, so there is no need to trouble the Master any further. Jesus hears it and answers him, “Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.” (Luke 8:50)
I keep coming back to that one little word, only. Not believe harder. Not believe and also fix everything. Just believe. For me, the Luke 8:50 meaning is this: healing is not something we earn or manufacture. Instead, it is the natural state of a life that is already whole in the One Mind, the one Body, the one Soul. Fear tells a story of lack and loss. Belief, on the other hand, simply agrees with what is already true.
So this poem came as I sat with the question underneath the verse: Can I really believe that completely, with every breath and every bone? Here is the answer I received. Finally, may it meet you right where you are, whatever you are facing today, and remind you that you are already held, whole and wholly loved.
Fear Not, Believe Only: A Poem
Can I simply believe with all my body, mind and soul?
Yes, because there is only One
Body,
One mind
And one soul
This one mind thinks my thoughts
Speaks through me
Does all things
Is all things
Including the air that fills all
100% spiritual lungs
The structure of all 100% spiritual spines
The living water that enlivens
Dry bones
Into a 100% spiritual skeletal system
The space that fills every void
The animating source
Of all movement
Activity
Engagement
Relationship
Government
Authority
Power
So yes, I can believe
With 100% certainty
That I am
Capable
Of understanding
And knowing
And demonstrating
Healing
And all I have to do is
Believe
