Chapter 2 – In Our Wake

I left my love for Tico

In a small world

Sisters meet to speak of their brothers.

My cousin sleeps

Tied with tourniquet sheets

To an endless railroad.

I feel his being crushed

Under iron wheels on which I sit

Even now he rumbles in my bones

Until I think I might splinter and shake.

Leaving the lonely hearts of mothers

In our wake.

Make my day
