Chapter 3 – A Child

A child wanders

Carelessly, wistfully

Through Easter egg hunts

And back yard barbeques

To the shade of a sapling

She sits beneath—awkward, pliant

Branches—shooting upward

In all directions

A young woman returns

To familiarity, to family

She is cautious and her future doubtful

Under a canopy of green she sleeps

Her universe leafened and starless

Make my day
